The Healing Aspect of Rope – all levels

5 – 6 October 2024 we will host Athen Shibari for an exciting and different workshop. We will have the pleasure of being taught by 2 different coulpe of teachers who will give us more wide and nuanced insight into the aspect of “The healing rope”.

Workshop description:

Shibari, also known as Kinbaku, is the traditional Japanese art of rope bondage. While its origins are rooted in eroticism and SM practises, Shibari has also gained recognition for its therapeutic and healing aspects, both physically and psychologically.
One of the primary ways in which Shibari contributes to healing is through the intimate connection it fosters between the rope artist (or rigger) and the person being tied (the model or bottom). The process of tying involves close communication, trust, and vulnerability, creating a space where individuals can explore and express their emotions, desires, and boundaries. This exchange of energy and attention can lead to feelings of security, relaxation, and emotional release, promoting a sense of well-being and inner peace.
Physically, Shibari can provide relief from tension and stress by stimulating blood circulation and promoting relaxation in the muscles. The deliberate placement of ropes along the body’s pressure points can alleviate discomfort and promote a sense of physical alignment and balance. Additionally, Shibari sessions often involve slow, deliberate movements and deep breathing exercises, which can induce a state of mindfulness and calmness, similar to practices like yoga or meditation.
For some individuals, engaging in Shibari can also be a form of sensory exploration and stimulation. The sensation of being bound in ropes can heighten awareness of one’s body and senses, leading to increased sensitivity and pleasure. This sensory focus can help individuals become more attuned to their bodies’ needs and sensations, promoting self-awareness and self-acceptance.
Furthermore, Shibari offers a safe and consensual space for individuals to explore and confront their vulnerabilities, fears, and past traumas. The act of being bound and held in a nurturing and supportive manner can evoke feelings of security and empowerment, allowing individuals to confront and process their emotions in a controlled and nurturing environment.
In this weekend we will explore:
– What is trauma
– Healing and Empowerment
– Trauma informed negotiation and risk awareness
– Boundaries, limitations, comfort zones
– How the body affects the mind and vice versa
– Ways to expand verbal and nonverbal communication
– How to trust our sensations, intuition, feelings
– Partner connection and intimacy
– Body awareness and acceptance
– Emotional expression and release
– Integration and self-reflection

To participate, you must know the basics, be able to make single and double column tie and have experience with one-rope binding (ichinawa). Bindings will be adapted to your personal level, so there will certainly also be very exciting for experienced participants.

We look forward to sharing this transformative experience with you!

  • Psychopsis/Lady EM
    Psychopsis/Lady EM

Psychopsis is a clinical psychologist and a rope model who finds shibari also interesting as a technique. It has a sedative effect on her and at the same time makes her discover the limits of her body and what she can create with it while she is in the ropes. She began her exploration in 2017 and from 2018 she has been working as a rope model in a more professional way, participating in many workshops, photoshoots and performances.
Her studies in the theater, as well as her involvement with the performance and her studies in difference types of dances, have helped her to develop her style in the ropes, which mainly promotes the calmness and tranquility that can take hold of someone when being tied.
She is an active member of the AthenShibari team and one of the core participants in the local rope scene. She is also co-teaching in many workshops and provides valuable guidance to new models who want to take their first steps in their rope exploration. Her goal is to show that shibari is for everyone and to help in creating a comfortable and safe environment for all those who want to explore it.

Lady EM is a rope artist with a fine combination of artistic and sadistic elements. As a professional physiotherapist, she believes that shibari is also a way to explore more on the abilities of the body. She discovered the ropes quite recently, as her journey started in 2022, but she has been really inspired by the art of Japanese bondage, one of the most active and dedicated riggers in the Greek scene. Her passion for body functions and elements has been a crucial part in her journey on the rope and kink in general.

Since then, she has attended classes with as Felix Ruckert, Sophia Rose, Boris Mosafir, Jonathan Ryan, Pauline Massimo, Aku Aku, Gestalta, Green Gorilla, Tamandua, La QuartaCorda, Tako and many more. She has performed all over Greece, but also Cyprus.
In 2018 she founded the AthenShibari and started to organize rope events in Athens and other places.
WisDomme loves all the aspects of rope, mostly restriction, the connections, the visuals, and creativity. She works with different body types, finding new ways of creating shapes and movements.
Her main goal as a presenter is to encourage everyone to discover their own path in shibari; to gain confidence in their skills, making secure steps and be their own artists.

    Nyx
For Nyx, shibari refers to challenge, to SM, to art, to eroticism. Ropes seduce her and make her willing to discover the limits of her body and her mind. She also loves the aesthetics of the art of japanese bondage. For her it is the unique connection with the person who is tying her, the trust, the power exchange.
She began her exploration in 2021 in a professional way, participating in workshops, photoshoots and performances.
She is an active member of the AthenShibari team. She is also co-teaching in workshops and guide new models. Her goal is to show that shibari is for everyone and to help in creating a comfortable and safe environment for all those who want to explore it.
